HealthHints 2004

January 2004 - Make a monthly resolution to change one aspect of your behaviour. This will help you change gradually throughout the year rather than break that New Year's Resolution in January!

Getting FitterFebruary 2004 - During the cold months of winter, wash your hands regularly. It reduces the chances of catching coughs and colds.

March 2004 - Get in the habit of exercising as soon as you can each day - that way it doesn't get pushed to the bottom of the list.

April 2004 - Lighter nights mean more time to get that walk, jog or exercise session in before it gets dark. Now is the time of year to start thinking about losing weight - not in January!!

May 2004 - This Sunday write on your kitchen calendar your exercise sessions for the week. That way you are more likely to keep to them.

June 2004 - Even at this time of year sunblock is a good idea. Find a daily moisturiser that has an SPF block included.

July 2004 - Enjoying the extra drink on a holiday is good but remember to avoid alcohol when you are going swimming and drink lots of water throughout the day to prevent dehydration.

August 2004 - Surprised by how you looked on the beach this summer? Now is the time to start changing body shape for next year. Set out a monthly goal for September and make it a positive target - walk everyday, have three caffeine free days a week etc. Reward yourself at the end of September by buying yourself a new cd.

September 2004 - Are you really exercising? Most people go through the motions of hitting the gym or brisk walking. Some of the questions you may want to ask yourself are 'Is my heart rate where it should be as I work out? Am I getting breathless? Do I feel I have worked out?'

October 2004 - Colder darker nights mean it gets harder to get moving. Shift one exercise session a week to the weekend and exercise when its still light. Its a great mood booster!

November 2004 - We watch more television during the darker evenings which means the calories pile on. Avoid putting the TV on out of habit. Wait until you actually want to watch a programme before you hit the 'on' button!

December 2004 - At Christmas and New Year our regular exercise time can get squeezed out by extra social functions, family visits and getting ready for the holiday season. Its not unusual to find it harder to keep exercising over Christmas and New Year. Try and do two good exercise sessions each week and don't feel guilty about skipping the rest. You'll soon be back to normal!!
